Tasting note
„Qu’il est beau ce Merlot!“ On the nose, warm, spicy fruit. Blackberry, plum, cassis, lavender, clove and smoked cocoa. On the palate, a long, soft opening. A velvety, deep structure paired with a fine acid-tannin balance. A balsamic, long finish with plum compote, blueberry, cocoa, vanilla, and sandalwood.

Description
We have been producing a single-varietal Merlot since the 1980s, and it is clear that climate change has had a positive impact on its development. It thrives thanks to its southern structure and depth, as well as its invigorating acidity and alpine freshness.
Grape Variety
100% Merlot. Our oldest Merlot vines, which are located in the Schöpfi vineyard, were planted in 1993. In total, there are 52 acres of Merlot.
Vineyard
Our Merlot is grown on three plots. Two of these are vineyards where our single-vineyard Pinots also grow: Schöpfi and Küng. The vines in these vineyards are over 30 years old. A further six acres are cultivated in Selviteiler.
Soil
The diverse vineyards reflect the typical Malans terroir, which is characterised by sediment from the mountains and the Rhine, and contains a high proportion of slate, humus and limestone.
Viticulture
We cultivate our vines using natural, holistic methods. In accordance with the principles of regenerative agriculture, we use various seeds and compost teas, and we are certified organic by Bio-Suisse and Knospe.
Maturation
The Merlot grapes are fully destemmed and undergo spontaneous fermentation. After two to three weeks, the juice is pressed and aged for 12 months in American oak barrels, around 40% of which are new.
