Riesling-Sylvaner

White Wine
2023

Tasting note

Despite its low alcohol content, the 2024 Riesling-Sylvaner is remarkably strong. It has a beautiful balance of stone fruit and citrus on the nose. On the palate, it is fresh and minerally, with notes of green apple, citron, pear, elderflower and herbs. It is a wonderful aperitif wine and is best served well chilled to kick off a mild autumn evening.

Description

We produce a modern, fresh interpretation of Riesling-Sylvaner (Müller-Thurgau). We seek out its citrus and stone fruit aromas by harvesting it early enough to preserve its lively acidity and beautiful minerality.

Grape Variety

100% Riesling-Sylvaner. We planted our 70 acres of Riesling-Sylvaner between 1993 and 2018.

Vineyard

The Riesling-Sylvaner variety is grown in the cooler areas of the Schöpfi, Küng, Selviteiler and Bungertrechti vineyards.

Soil

The diverse vineyards reflect the typical Malans terroir, which is characterised by sediment from the mountains and the Rhine, and contains a high proportion of slate, humus and limestone.

Viticulture

We cultivate our vines using natural, holistic methods. In accordance with the principles of regenerative agriculture, we use various seeds and compost teas, and we are certified organic by Bio-Suisse and Knospe.

Maturation

The grapes are destemmed and left to stand for four hours before being pressed. Spontaneous fermentation then takes place in steel tanks, after which half of the wine is aged in a 1,700-litre wooden barrel dating from 1991. Malolactic fermentation is deliberately avoided. The wine is produced according to the principles of regenerative agriculture and is naturally certified organic (Bio-Suisse and Knospe).
