Pinot Blanc

White Wine
2024

Tasting note

The 2024 Pinot Blanc harvest was so small that, for the first time, we had to switch from using the old 1700-litre wooden barrels for ageing to using 300-litre barriques. It has a soft attack on the palate, followed by a dense structure with fine mineral tannins and a crisp finish. This reveals aromas of orange blossom, apple, pear and various mountain herbs.

Description

We love Pinot Blanc when it is fresh with a juicy acidity and a salty, mineral structure. This is why we harvest the grapes early, when they reach around 89 degrees Oechsle.

Grape Variety

100% Pinot Blanc. Our Alpine Pinot Blanc is made using grapes from vines planted in 2005 and 2018.

Vineyard

Ratschelga and Selviteiler. The older Pinot Blanc vines occupy 13 acres of the Ratschelga vineyard. The younger vines, which cover 20 acres, are located in Selviteiler.

Soil

The Ratschelga vineyard is located in the middle of the village at our old site. Our highest vineyard, at 590 metres, is characterised by slate, limestone and magnetite. The Selviteiler vineyard (531 m) has a soil made up of loam and sand.

Viticulture

We cultivate our vines using natural, holistic methods. In accordance with the principles of regenerative agriculture, we use various seeds and compost teas, and we are certified organic by Bio-Suisse and Knospe.

Maturation

The Pinot Blanc grapes are fully de-stemmed before spontaneous fermentation. Malolactic fermentation is deliberately prevented. The wine is then aged for nine months in large wooden barrels dating back to 1991.
